Nikon D40x Review

The D40/D40X are the most compact Nikon digital SLRs to date. They are proof that you can build a compact digital SLR without compromising comfort or ergonomics (well at least if your lens mount isn't too large).

This camera is light, quick, relatively cheap, and takes great pics. It's just easier to pick up and lug around. What else could anyone (except pros) want? No, I haven't owned a D80 or better but it's the best camera I've ever owned by far. Of course more professional photographers will recommend a D80 or D300. Well...most people DO NOT need those cameras. With this camera, another good lens and speedlite, and you're pretty much set. The battery life is amazing and seems endless.

Help is available throughout the camera interface, either in shooting mode, setting adjustment or menus, simply press and hold the help '?' button. Note that in shooting mode the '?' icon may occasionally blink, this essentially means that the camera has some advice for you - great for newbie.

During playback you can display a pop-up version of the Retouch menu by pressing the OK button, this is a faster method of applying any of the retouch adjustments to the current image and it is one of the reason why I love this camera so much, faster editing and save my time.

I also experienced dust on sensor without removing lens, which I have no idea how it went in...but have tough time cleaning it as the camera doesn't come with Integrated Cleaning System like Canon EOS. Personally, I feel that the 3pt focusing is not enough for me and would definitely prefer more points like Canon's 9pt focusing... Yes, nothing is perfect in this world and I am pretty pleased with what I have at the moment.

In conclusion, great camera at a great price and highly recommended to DSLR newbie. Will stick to this camera for sometime unless there's a new camera with improved functions which is affordable to me otherwise I don't see a reason to change it.
